The Hyundai Bayon will be the company’s second compact SUV in India after the Creta, positioned below it. Hyundai has confirmed that the Bayon will launch on October 26. Early estimates put the price between ₹10 lakh and ₹17.50 lakh, but Hyundai has not announced official prices.
Engine And Gearbox Options
The Bayon gets a single engine, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol. It makes 115 PS of power and 144 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual and a CVT (continuously variable transmission) automatic. The drive is front-wheel. There is no diesel or turbo-petrol option, which should help Hyundai keep prices competitive.
Key Features
The cabin features two 12.3-inch screens, one for infotainment and one for the digital instrument cluster. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Hyundai also shows a generative AI voice assistant based on Perplexity AI. Other highlights include an auto-dimming interior mirror.
Safety Kit
Safety looks like a strong point. The Bayon gets Level-2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems), a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold. Six airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system are expected as standard. ADAS features are likely to include lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking. Crash-test ratings are not available yet.
Should You Wait?
If you want a feature-loaded compact SUV with a simple petrol engine, the Bayon looks promising. Buyers who want a turbo-petrol or diesel will need to look elsewhere. It is best to wait for the October 26 launch to see final variants and prices.
